Beaches and Trails

Taking a right down San Lucas Ave and then a left down Ocean Blvd, you will meet the trailhead of the beautiful Pillar Point Bluff trail. At the end of a moderate 1.7 mile hike, you are greeted with Mavericks beach, home to the famous Mavericks wave surfing competition. The end of the trail also leads to Pillar Point Harbor, with a handful of great restaurants, shops, local fish markets, and Pillar Point Harbor beach. Pillar Point Harbor is also accessible by a 5 minute drive.

Taking a right down San Lucas Ave and then a right down Ocean Blvd’s pedestrian trail, pass the Moss Beach Distillery and continue down Beach Way to reach the Fitzgerald Marine Reserve. Right at the entrance is the small and private Moss Beach, and continuing into the grounds will take you on an easy 0.9 mile trail through a breathtaking cypress tree forest and bluff lookout. The trail ends at the tide pools that are filled with a rich variety of local marine life, a great activity for young children.

Family Oriented Activities

A 20 minute drive away on Highway 92, Lemos farm is a popular spot for children and their families. The farm themed park has pony rides, train rides, petting zoos, and my personal favorite, goat yoga.

Nearby Surfer Towns

A 15 minute drive north towards Pacifica is the small surfers town of Linda Mar, home to the famous beachside Taco Bell Cantina considered the most beautiful Taco Bell in the US. Along with the fast food joint are plenty of restaurants and a few grocery stores, all a walk away from Pacifica State Beach. Keep driving north and you’ll see Sea Bowl Entertainment center, a fun and classic bowling alley for all ages.

If you are looking for some good fish and chips, I would highly recommend Barbara’s Fish Trap. Just a 5 minute drive away at Pillar Point Harbor, the small restaurant will consistently have long lines out the door but is right next to the beach so the wait is manageable. They are cash only.
